Part of the Hauraki Cycle Trail. When this section was first opened, wherever the trail crossed a farm race you had to dismount and wheel the bike through a crazy pipe setup. As the trail crosses lots of farm tracks, this was such a pain! It has now been changed and these mini cattle stops have been put in, meaning you can continue riding without having to dismount. A much better system!
Ah ! a reminder of all those "cattle grids " on country roads through farmland in rural mid Wales Uk - My son when little , loved us to drive over the "cattle grids " when we used to travel cross country when visiting from one pair of grandparent to the other .
I know so little about farming or cattle. Have I got it straight that you would be riding from the bottom to the top, across this metal bridge thingy while the cattle would be moving cross wise from one side to the other when moving from one field to another? (And, what is a farm race?)
Great shot - we did this when the kids were little. The youngest was sooo scared of going over these on the bike, and of course the slower you go the more likely the wheel will go sideways and get stuck...
