During your project, everyone has times when they are taking great photos and other times where you feel you are not. I am in a slump right now. I am trying new things but have not been super happy with my photos lately. So I am curious, are you streaking or slumping??
I feel I am streaking as I just had a shot chosen for the top 20 list week 117.
Granted it was only #18 but hey, it made me feel great just the same. But i do know what you are saying about sometimes being in a slump, sort of like writer's block. I get that.
Good topic. I've definitely felt both ways, sometimes changing weekly. Right now I feel like I've been having a good month of September. Nothing extraordinary, but at least I feel motivated at the moment
Slumping, I had a shot in the top 20 three weeks in a row so my streak had to finish eventually. I haven't had as much time to comment as I would like either.
@sailingmusic stunning shot!! Well deserving of the top 20!
Ugh, right now I am streaking! I must take at least 100 photos a day, then have to cull them down and narrow it down to just a couple to post! I have my digital and film cameras going full speed; just about as bad as being in a slump!
I just started my 365 day project. So, in terms of slumping/streaking for this project, I cant say. But I have been taking photos for a while and I do feel like I have streaks and slumps. But after a couple of those times I found that I can get out of those times fairly easy. I found that they were not really slumps or streaks. I found that these situations were more stagnations. I got kind of in a rut. Everything I did was the same. I used the same camera settings, took the same kind of photos (landscape/flower,...), etc. I simply got bored and all my photos lost their shininess. So one day I tried something completely different for a while. It seemed to bring the former "slump" pictures back their luster. Of course, thats just me. :)
A bit of slump as I have so much work on it's a push to find time to play around with the camera. It's still definitely a pleasure each day to take photos, they just maybe don't look as lovely as they do other times. Still learning each day, process not product.
I really like the photos I've taken the past week and a half, even if they don't seem to be getting the views or faves. I like what I've been doing, so I say streaking.
slump, no time no time no time! I would love to try some of the challenges, but right now I am just so pressed for time with some elder care issues. I think my comments are down partly because my photos reflect that lack of time, but also, I haven't had time to view and comment on people's photos.
I feel like I'm slumping, but think five out of my last six pictures are great. For me I have not been inspired with ideas for the pictures, but just grabbing a shot when I spot it.
Ah slumping! And most irritatingly, slumping due to life constraints like work! My last few pictures have been mediocre at best and lack of views and comments I suppose concrete that. I only really get one day a week to shoot properly in varied locations, and through the week its hard to keep flowers and fruit interesting!
Slumping! 2 days of not bothering to pick up my camera...yesterday I didn't even bring it out with me! (might just be post holiday blues!) However, my brain is working on ideas to pick up on when I get the motivation back. I'm with Jenn, the get-pushed challenge is sort of keeping me going at the moment
Streaking at the moment, and loving it. Into my ninth month, and got a pic on the home page for the first time, and really happy about how much I have learnt from this wonderful community. Haven't had a slump yet.
I guess I'm on a streak since I'm actually back to taking photos! I took most of the summer off because I lost the spark (and the other biggie, couldn't find the extra time!)
I don't consider I go thru a slump....just a period of insecurity. I am a newbie (just photographing 2 yrs). I have an antique store, and have told my customers for 25 years, "you don't find it, it finds you". I truly believe that applies here. If you overthink, you block your creative juices. This picture should create its own moment, and I believe we can be our own worst enemy trying to out prove ourselves day after day. I have posted some pictures that were "just because", and they turned out to say something totally unexpected to others. Good luck.
I was in the middle of a major slump. Was still taking photos but got about 14 days behind with my editing/uploading. Consequently I'm now in the middle of a major streak after a marathon editing session in a Milanese coffee shop. Feels great to be back posting and all the great comments on my return really have given me the push I needed to keep posting.
I feel like I'm streaking. I'm liking what I'm shooting a lot more now and think I really hit my stride once I hit the 365 midway point. http://youtu.be/XtzoUu7w-YM
I often feel the slumps we complain of aren't true slumps, just periods of being overly critical. These periods are necessary for growth - we begin to question our settings, our subjects and our processing. If we do the same thing every day, we're bound to become bored with our work. That's when it's time to shake things up! Shoot different subjects, at different times of the day and try new post processing. The streak will return.
I try not to see these as streaks or slumps but rather as the ebb & flow of my learning process...when I feel I'm not giving my photography my best, I spend some time reading and researching photography techniques, then go off to try them out. At that point, my energy feels renewed again and my mind is open to pushing on to the next level.
At the moment, I'm in a contemplative ebb...I'm not feeling satisfied with my work right now, but that's to be expected as I continue to grow...
Can't say that I ever slump on shooting photos, at least not for more than a day or two. Getting them off my memory card to my computer, sorting, and editing.... well, that's another story.
I go up and down... at the moment I'd say slumping, but mainly because I haven't had as much time to put into the project lately... something I hope to change soon.
slumping. I've been so totally underwhelmed I took a picture of my husband's feet the other night.
some times going for a mountain bike ride with camera in tow helps. Last night I met a cool older fellow on the trail. I just got done climbing a steep section and was drinking water waiting for him to get to the top before I descended. I said, "That's a good climb." He said, "Yeah, its a good beginning." Where was my camera? tucked safely in its pack on my back. Tonight I saw the biggest raven I have ever seen and where was my camera? in the back of my car. GRRRRR.
slump for me too. I just haven't had the push to get out and take pictures every day. Im feeling that pictures are getting repetitive and that is discouraging to me!

Lack of time and energy aren't helping either.
