One of the wonderful aspects of this site is that it is family oriented, as I've seen many 365ers with family members having projects - including myself. First my wife, who completed her own project a long while back and got me hooked on this, and now my dad @larryb.
He is 70 something years young and is discovering and having fun with photography for the first time. While visiting him last month I got him a little Canon Power Shot for his B'day, showed him how to import, edit and upload and opened his account. At first I did get a few phone calls on how this and how that, but 25 pics in and he is off his easy chair and actively scoping out locations and things to shoot each day. And best of all like us - looking at the world a little more closely. Good luck dad and keep snapping!
Just thought this was a nice story to mention and highlight a wonderful feature of this site. Please feel free to tack on to this thread and give a shout out to your family with projects.
@michaelelliott That's what's nice about this project anyone can get involved. No one is here to judge others' work. We're all here to encourage one another !! Thank you for sharing your dads story and your work !!!
Lovely story! Like father, like son. I was quite excited when my 12 year old decided to start the project. He lasted 5 shots! Looks like your dad has got a lot more staying power.
It was my dad @andrewnhubbard who got me started with 365, and our photos of the day are often a topic of conversation, so it's been really nice as a shared activity. He's just finished his first year, and am trying to encourage him to join in the community aspect in the second year :)
I think this is amazing! I would love it if my dad or one of my family members had the same itch for photography as I do, buuut sadly.... I am the only one. Hummm, wonder where my desire spawned from?
Great story!!! Very cool he got into it :) My sis-in-law @shutterbugger started her project before me and encouraged me to give it a try after her having such a positive experience. Knowing my love of photography she thought it would be a good push for me and she was right!!
@andycoleborn - Thx mate. I told him he'll get some chuckles following you and Rich. I remember you telling about your dad (mine served in the navy too).
My daughter is in her second year with 365 and, after much persuasion, finally succeeded in getting her mother (me!) hooked just before the New Year!. Wonder how manyother family "units" are doing the project. It would be interesting to know and to know their stories. Who got whom hooked, etc.
My daughter Lucy ( http://365project.org/lucycakes/365) persuaded me to start 365, about 2 months after she had started. It was good on occasions for us to work together on the same or similar themes and to compare our interpretations. She has now completed her year and is having a break while she is busy with her final year at university, but I'm sure she will be back.
Well I'm very proud of Michael. A very big thank you to all of you for support. I hope I can make my photos enjoyable for you.Ther will be no method to my madness.
Great story, Michael! Since I started 365 two years ago, all four of my kids gave it a try and gave up. My mother completed a full year, two of my aunts are still on and a cousin gave it a try. It's fun to see family members on here.
Awesome story---my roomie wants to do the project but i don't really trust him---he'll steal my ideas and maybe my camera too-lol !!!:) so i told him --there's a monthly fee and he back out..
My sister got me started but she only lasted a couple of months. Now my mum, who will be 70 this year, has started too. She just has a point and shoot but is already talking about getting a DSLR. My dad would have loved this place, he loved photography and it his camera that I now use.
I am off to find your dad now @michaelelliott - if he's half as talented as you I can't wait to see his photos.
My sister is also online @kelliesilva. Hoping she has a good go at this, I'll get on her back when i see her next.
I'd love for my mum to start, she has been building a strawbale house which would have been cool documented.
My niece got me started in here. Anyone who has followed me for a while has seen me me tin her or post pics of her taking pics. Se is Erin @ehenry95
She's in high school and very busy so she doesn't post very regularly anymore. But she posts from time to time. She also uses Instagram.i am thankful she found this site and then encouraged me to participate. I love to head out with her, cameras in tow...we have shot at TybeeIsland, Savannah, cemeteries, holidays at home, etc....
When i started my project i was still on my worldtrip and my mom wasn't really interested yet, but after being home for a few weeks she said to me maybe i should give it a try. And now she love it, after only a few weeks in she already bought a new p&s camera with a lot of zoon, because her old one only had 3x zoom :P Her name is Tiny @mozie and she always has to laugh when she sees her name being used as a word for small, we're from the Netherlands and English is also still new to her. I love that she enjoys it so much and is really proud of herself when she found a great shot, because she deserves that :)
Thank you all very much for your comments and I greatly appreciate how many people checked out my dad's album and gave him a boost. He went from not doing much to now being excited every day to take shots and chat with people around the world. Its wonderful to see how many of us share our passion for photography with loved ones and to see how getting involved in this art form, activity, or what ever you want to call it, can transform how we see and appreciate the world - no matter how young or how old. Thx again :-)
@michaelelliott Hi Michael! I just went to follow your dad. He is doing a great job. You guys live near one another? Just curious? If not, you must do a 365 " meet up" to shoot pics. LOL!
Very cool! I joined the project with 2 friends, but both dropped out pretty quickly. Luckily there are MANY friend opportunities on 365! I would love it if I had a family member doing the project, I think that was SO sweet of you to get your Dad started on this, and I love the powershots.
Great story Michael, I went in the reverse direction, I hooked my daughter @natr into the project. Initially she just followed me and commented, now she posts her images when she has time. I've even got my wife taking photos and have used some of her captures during our recent New Zealand Cruise.
Great topic, Michael. My one daughters (who only lasted for several shots) got my and another one of my daughters interested in 365. My other daughter and I stuck with it and we got another one of my daughters interested. Is this confusing? I'm confused. LOL
Anyway, two of my daughters @scooter and @steempy and I are on here.
My sister @mcdougall and I started and completed our projects on the same day. It was an amazing experience to share with her. I'm hoping that she will come back soon and join us.
@scooter@mittens - too funny I look at pics and chat with both of you never knowing you were mom and daughter. This thread has turned out better than I thought. Its amazing all the family coming out here and sharing.
@michaelelliott We were terrible! It was a rough year, bring it on next year! For you guys to loose to us, that was bad.... First time in a long while we were not in the playoff either.
@scooter - Giant games are always intense because we expect them to win - its a lot of pressure watching the games. But since not in playoffs it is kind of relaxing - Oh well ... next year :)
@michaelelliott Same as here, Steelers always win, I always expect but now, just relaxing, enjoying what football is left and will have a good time at a superbowl party, without the worry of my Steelers loosing! :D Until next year..... :)
@michaelelliott@aglennc My story is very similar to yours, Michael! Some tutorials on using the site with my mom over Christmas and she's hooked on 365. 19 days in with no end in sight! Of course, she's already replied to this thread and she'll soon have more followers than me! =) Thanks for starting this discussion... Fun to see all the family involvement!
In fact, it was my Dad who got me started into photography as a hobby after a stroke 4 years ago when he gave me his DSLR...
Tho technically part of the ovreall navy they always think of themsleves as above them lol

That is so great, Michael, that you got your father interested in taking pictures to share here. I hope he enjoys it.
Hi back, scooter. :)
