He's back!

After the excitement of yesterday, we decide to go back to the lock this morning and lo and behold, the seal is still there. He is a Grey seal (identified by his 'Roman' nose) and according to the Lock keepers, he probably came upstream whilst chasing fish over the weir.

It is actually quite clean water now in the river Thames and there are many types of fish so he should not go hungry. He was swimming between the weir and the lock gates and for this photo he was literally within 6 feet of me. He had a good look and swam off. I stayed for nearly two hours watching him until I was so cold I headed home to warm up with a coffee. As it is such an unusual occurrence here, I decided it was worth a Demotix article - if you are interested there are some more images of him here… http://www.demotix.com/news/6686433/grey-seal-spotted-thames-above-teddington-lock-middlesex#media-6686338
Poor wee thing. He or she is very far in land.

There was a seal down in the beach sea water pool in Dunedin the other day and he wouldn't get out! Frolicked about for 3 hours then finally got out and went back out the door!
