Our first full day in Edinburgh and the weather is stunning - chilly but so sunny and actually warmer than in London.
This was one site I did in fact visit all those years ago when I was last in the city. It is a statue of Grey Friars Bobby. He was a terrier who belonged to John Gray - a policeman who died in 1858. After he had passed away, Bobby was so heartbroken he refused to leave the grave. At first people tried to shoo him out of the cemetery but after a while they started to care for him, to bring him food every day.
In recognition of his loyalty he was granted the Freedom of the City and was given a special collar so he would not be taken away by the dog warden. James Brown the Sexton looked after Bobby during his vigil and the little dog used to creep under a tomb next to his masters grave in the rainy weather to keep dry.
Fourteen years after John Gray's death, Bobby finally passed away. He was so missed by the people that he was buried in the same churchyard and a memorial was erected for him so visitors can see exactly where he lies.
This is his statue outside of Grey Friar's Cemetery and his little nose is a shiny bronze where thousands of visitors have given him a stroke.
Great pov in this shot, and I'm glad to see a blue sky. I love the story of Grey Friars' Bobby and made sure I saw his statue when I was in Edinburgh. Fav for me. Hope you and Colin are having a wonderful time.
