This is Gilbert - he is a Herman’s tortoise, captive bred but originating from Turkey. He is an early birthday present for Colin from his son and his fiancee.
He’s very nice but we are a little worried as despite their assurances that tortoises can be as high or low maintenance as we want, having read up they are actually very high maintenance requiring specialist living conditions and heat and UVB light bulbs in the winter. If anyone reading this keeps tortoises, please let me know as we have quite a few questions! We do like him though and we have already discovered he loves watercress and rocket.
He's a handsome boy. I know practically nothing about tortoise care, but f I learn anything useful, I'll definitely be in touch. Has Brockley Hamster met him?
