5th October 2017

Today is out last day in Melbourne before we have a full-on few days driving the Great Ocean Road on the way to Kangaroo Island. Today Victoria Markets were open unlike our visit yesterday morning) and we started with a strong coffee. The forecast for the day was not good but in actual fact after a short sharp shower first thing in the morning, the rest of the day was dry. We walked through Flagstaff Park which is opposite out hotel.

After Victoria Market where I could into buy anything due to my case being absolutely crammed full already, we went to Melbourne gaol. This seems to be a bit of a theme for cities in Australia after visiting Fremantle prison a couple of weeks ago (is it really that long ago already?). Another great tour by a woman who turned out to know the daughter of a mutual friend of Colin’s from his days in the Met Police - it really is a small world. I was fascinated by the plaster death masks - very creepy and Colin was interested in the details about Ned Kelly who was hanged in the gaol. We know how to have a good time!

We lunched in our usual food court that we have visited a few times and then headed for tram 35 - the cities circular tram. We managed to get seat together and tried not to fall asleep as we circled around the city. The 35 stopped by Flagstaff Park on William Street so we hopped off there and made out way back as we had to pack for our journey. We actually ordered food in as we were both too tired to go out again. It poured with rain so we realised that we have been lucky for the last couple of evenings when we met Kelly and Mark and then last night when we were photographing.
