Colin needed to pop into the genealogy place again today and by chance we found another of Melbourne’s excellent coffee shops right next door. After we had completed business we headed for the Eureka Sky Deck which somehow we had overlooked and is the highest public observation deck in the southern hemisphere. There were amazing views from the top across Melbourne and I liked the way it was rather understated unlike a lot of the American towers we have been up.

We enjoyed a healthy salad lunch on the South Bank before getting the tram out to Station Pier to visit the place at which the P&O ship the Ballarat arrived carrying Colin’s Grandma Bessie. We enjoyed ice creams to celebrate her arrival.

We had planned some night photography a while ago and on our way back from Station Pier I spotted a good place on a bridge looking towards the city. We headed out there in the evening, tripod in hand and not only got some great night shots over the Yarra river for reflections, we also saw the Crown Casino gas towers light up on the hour at 9.00pm - they were so hot that we could feel the heat a way away on the bridge. (Whoops - forgot to change the time on the camera 3 hours forward - this was at 8.39pm).
