Colin wimped out of Tony Hale’s walk this morning as past experience has demonstrated that we often have quite bad backs at the end of the day despite the great tour Tony takes us on.
I got to Waterloo early and met Tony and another group of people under the clock on concourse bang at 10.35am. There was a group of about nine of us who all got on the tube to travel to Liverpool Street. As usual Tony’s tour was really informative and yet again I discovered new areas of London that I have not seen before and made a note to go back there again with Colin in the future. I could not believe how cold it was today - at the last minute I had grabbed a thin lightweight jacket but unfortunately I got really cold and someone suggested we should have bought gloves which was a good idea! We finished up looking around at the Royal Exchange in the City of London and at that point Tony had to leave us. The group wanted to eat at a pub nearby but the one that they eventually chose was, in my opinion, way too expensive so I made my excuses and headed into central London.
I have to say that my back was killing me by now and so I headed for a Pret A Manger I know in near Leicester Square for a sandwich and a cup of coffee and some painkillers. I also took the opportunity to visit the new Stanfords map shop which has moved to an address just round the corner from its original location. It is actually quite good although it does not have the character of the previous building. I bought a map and book for a surprise trip that I have booked for a few days in November for Colin’s birthday - I hope he does not read this so just in case I will not say the destination!
This is a montage of images that I took during our trip around the city of London
