31st January 2020

My second visit ‘uptown’ in as many days as we headed to the Destinations Travel show at Olympia. We go each year for inspiration although we have nowhere in particular that we are planning to visit at the moment apart from our imminent trip to Malaga and Ronda next week. This is an ice sculpture of a polar bear which rather topically was melting in the heat of the hall.

We watched on of the Stanford’s lectures by a man that had summited K2 (and Everest) which was interesting and Colin bought his signed book for Chris’s birthday in March. Half way through the day my right eye suddenly developed strange black floaters and lines which is rather worrying so I hope there’s not a problem.

We made our way back home to avoid the rush hour and it was cold and raining. On our way out I managed to give away one of the pairs of free tickets to two women coming in which saved them £30 and gave me the feel good feeling!

As the date today is the 31st of January this is officially the day that we leave Europe. It’s been over 3.5 years since the original flawed referendum which was supposed to be an advisory vote and which was subject to the most appalling lies and misinformation on both sides during the two campaigns. I cannot believe it is actually going to happen but as a non confrontational demonstration and act of support to Europe I planned a thoroughly European meal. We had:

Aperitif - bottle of BELGIUM beer with ITALIAN salami crisps;

Main course - ITALIAN pasta with pesto with SPANISH chorizo accompanied by a GREEK salad of feta cheese, cucumber and tomatoes (from HOLLAND) and salad leaves from the NETHERLANDS.;

Wine from SPAIN!

Dessert - ENGLISH blackberry and apple crumble with ice cream.

Goodbye to our European friends, I hope we will rejoin you in the future when people realise the error of their ways.

Positive - an interesting show
