Mum and Ian set off late in the morning as Mum was concerned that she had said she would be going straight home on her Passenger Locator Form although I am not sure if anyone actually takes any notice nowadays.
I packed them up with a couple of slices of cake for the journey and then got on with changing the beds back again and putting some washing on when I got a call from Mum. They had broken down on the M3 and not only that but on the smart motorway bit where there is no hard shoulder or protection at all. I was very worried and so was Mum. Although the police had closed the inside lane, apparently people were ignoring the red cross of a closed lane and were speeding down towards their car and they had nowhere safe to go.
Eventually a Traffic Officer arrived and between another emergency vehicle they were towed to a refuge point to await the RAC rescue. The problem turned out to be a fuel lead without a clip which explained the sudden total loss of power and was even more worrying as they had the car serviced just before coming to us so it sounds like a bad service. In the event Mu had tripped over and hurt her knee and it turns out later, gave herself a black eye as well.
I was very relieved when they finally called to say they had arrived back safely in Penzance.
