A 4.00am start for someone who is not that good ‘at mornings’ for a flight to Bagan - the Land of a Thousand Temples (actually well over 3,000 of them).
This is a beautiful place, quite unlike anywhere we’ve been before. Despite the early start, we have already visited some temples. I have a mass of golden Buddha photographs but this is one that I really like from today of a guide waiting patiently in the doorway of Shwegugyi temple (built in 1131). The wooden doors are beautifully ornate with mythical creatures and the shaded interior was a relief after the direct heat of the sun.
