There was once another homestead site at the back of our farm. There is not much left there except the foundation of the house and a bit of an area where they dumped their garbage. Most of the garbage has decomposed but there are still old bottles laying about.
I very seldom see them except in the spring of the year before the vegetation has covered them.

I often think of what they were used for as well and imagine their past. @sandrajo
There are so many neat old ones. I keep meaning to bring a box back with me so I can bring them home. There may be one or two that are rare and have some value. @30pics4jackiesdiamond
I thought that they may be a fire hazard as well but they have been there for over 50 years and not caused harm yet. I think they are safe since there is so much sand and dirt in each one that they no longer heat the foliage.

This was well over 50 years ago and I don't think there was garbage collection in the rural areas then. Every farm had a landfill (hole dug in the ground) of some sort back then. They just covered it up every so often.
