Hutton le Hole is perhaps the most beautiful village in the North Yorkshire Moors, one of Britain's beautiful national parks.
High heather covered moorland lies to the north and slopes southwards towards the village. An east-west ridge of hills broken by Hutton Beck forms a sheltered spot for Hutton le Hole.
A large village green forms the centre of the settlement, with the beck running through the western part of the green. Houses are mainly stone, built of a lovely cream / yellow rock. and the roofs are pantiles.
An excellent museum contains a range of old buildings from other places reconstructed here, and it is a fascinating place to explore, with cruck framed buildings being of particular interest.
The village is an excellent centre for walkers, with a range of walks from short simple easily followed routes, to open moorland routes where the ability to use a map and compass is essential.
A place well worth a visit, and where I took quite a lot of photos. This shot over the village is taken near the start of a short walk along the ridge towards the village of Lastingham.
So wonderful to see this shot, which shows a beautiful landscape. I had a holiday based in Lastingham when I was 11 and returned with my father after my mother's death so there are happy and poignant memories for me of this area. Fav!
It looks so inviting. I lived so close to England as a child and unfortunately have never seen it except for one evening on a flight change from one airport to another and had to stay overnight for the next flight out in the morning.
Thank you Gill. Sadly it's a very expensive place to buy property, and many of the houses are now second homes, so I'm afraid I won't be able to live there!
Thank you Molly for sharing your memories. My walk took me through Lastingham and then onto the moors. I love the church in Lastingham with it's ancient crypt - it really is beautiful.
Thank you Tony, and thank you for the fav! It's a very beautiful village - one of my favourite places to visit and do walks from. It's quite amazing that it's taken so long for it to appear on 365!
Thank you Ross - there is so much more I could say about this village, it really is one of my favourite places!
