Stonebow, York by fishers

Stonebow, York

I've posted several of York's timber-framed buildings and to provide some contrast here is the Stonebow building. This 1960's example of concrete architecture from the Brutalist school is in the heart of the city around 2 minutes walk from the famous Shambles.

This listed building is home to a number of businesses and a nightclub that hosts live bands.

Everyone seems to have an opinion about the architecture which polarises into the love it or hate it debate.

Jury is out on that for me. Cant really say it appeals with what else there is in York

Every time has his own architecture and time is the judge. Somewhere I like it.
Thank you very much Katharine for you visit, nice comment and the fav. It makes my day

Can't see these buildings being around in a few hundred years. Fancy building this in the centre of York, Tut Tut!

You are right about architecture. Even though I prefer older buildings it is always nice to see new ones as well

Certainly lacks the charm of those older structures.

What a contrast to the older buildings!! Definitely prefer the older ones, but interesting to see what else you have in York. (Amazed it's listed!!!)

Quite the contrast..also prefer the older more charming buildings in York.

@padlock @gamelee There is constant debate about this building. At the moment one group want it demolishing and another are proposing converting it into a hotel! Katharine

@pyrrhula That is a good saying. I sometimes wonder if other styles of architecture were disliked at the time of building. Katharine

@bkbinthecity @tonydebont They say variety is the spice of life and we have lots of different buildings in York. Katharine

@bruceruston Thanks Bruce. Its difficult to get a good view of it as the road is littered with signs and bus stops. Katharine

@gillg @bruni Thank you. Personally I like the older buildings and we have some more recent building that is sympathetic to this ancient city. May post a picture or two later in the project of these. Katharine

I belong to the group of people who don't find this a very attractive building... but it's an awesome shot!!!!

@monkeykid Thanks Therese. I don't like it either but felt I should show an alternative to my favourite timber-framed buildings. Katharine
