Each year, towards the end of January, a Residents Festival is held in York, with free or reduced price admission to many museums, and access to other buildings not normally open to the public. It's impossible to visit all the locations over the weekend, since there are over 60 involved, but Katharine and I visited several in the western part of the city centre, including some that are new to us.
I posted a shot earlier this month of the city council's new headquarters ( http://365project.org/fishers/365/2014-01-04) and included a brief history of the buildings. Here is a view of the interior of the new building erected between the old railway buildings. An excellent guided tour of both old and new buildings gave further insights into the past and present of both. The tour started with a look at the way the historic buildings have been adapted to modern needs, and followed with a look at the new, with a fascinating outline of environmental and energy saving features incorporated in the design.
Here we are on the upper floor of the new building, looking north-east along it's length, with a view into the other floors below.
We have the same in Holland once a year. Thanks for you fav. You make my day.
Great view and capture of this building. Love the pov. and composition to show all that inner space . Thanks for the interresting information
Great info...wish we'd have some kind of Residents Festival here as well. I l like way you composed this one. My first time to see with this design...beautiful and interesting.
I love the open concept and the leading lines taking you down the long stretch of the building. the Residents Festival is a marvelous idea. never heard of anything like this here in Toronto.
Thank you Bob - open plan offices are very popular here, and I used to work in one, but I found it rather noisy and distracting. Much better when I moved into a smaller office with only around 12 of us.
Thank you Molly - the Resident's Festival has run for a number of years, and is a fascinating event. Each year there is something new to visit, and it does make us look more closely at places in the city.
Thank you Nina - the idea behind the Residents Festival was that it was a way the tourist industry could say thank you to local people who do so much to make visitors to the city welcome.
Thank you Bruni - - the idea behind the Residents Festival was that it was a way the tourist industry could say thank you to local people who do so much to make visitors to the city welcome.
Thank you Therese - each floor does have it's own colour - this is to help people find their way around, since each floor has the same layout as all the others, the different colours ensure people know what floor they are on!
Thank you Karen - open plan offices are very popular here at the moment, and I used to work in one, but I found it rather noisy and distracting. Much better when I moved into a smaller office with only around 12 of us.
