Cold War Bunker Interior by fishers

Cold War Bunker Interior

The tour guide for the bunker was informative but nervous, Ian and I were on his first tour.

The three pictures to the left were taken in the operations room. The far left picture shows the well where data from the middle pictures was mapped and analysed.

Incoming data was logged onto boards (top middle), these boards were turned every 5 mins so staff in the well could access up to date information. Much of the data was imported from the instruments ( bottom middle), and include the white pin hole camera to calculate the site of an explosion, and the grey ionisation chamber to help measure nuclear fall out.

The picture on the right shows a control panel in part of the plant room, which helped control the life support systems of the bunker.

@pyrrhula Thank you. It was interesting to see and note that such a bunker would now be run by computers rather than people. Katharine

@silverhorn The bunker was locked when decommissioned in 1991 and needed some restoration work to make it look functional once more. Katharine
