I arrived at York railway station yesterday morning to find considerable delays to services from Scotland, but fortunately my southbound service to Doncaster was on time.
Shortly after arriving at Doncaster, while waiting for a connecting service, the train which caused the delays came through the station. An East Coast electric service had broken down in north eastern England, and was here been towed south at considerable speed towards London, but running over an hour late. It was being towed south by a diesel 'Thunderbird' rescue locomotive.
For those of you not familiar with 1960's UK TV, 'Thunderbirds' was a children's puppet series where an organisation called International Rescue had five state-of-the-art vehicles which rescued people from the most dire and dangerous situations. Virgin trains had several rescue locomotives which were given names of characters from the series, so now, such locomotives for any operator have become known as 'Thunderbirds'.
What a neat story about the rescue locomotives. I watched "Thunderbirds" as often as I could when I was a child. I keep meaning to find it on DVD... maybe I should put it back on the top of my list.
Great shot of this nice train. Remember the series very well. Did watch them with our suns. Thank you for you so nice comment and the fav. Appreciate it very much.
Thunderbird are go..... So remember this series from my childhood and my eldest son enjoyed it when it was relaunched in the '90's. Nice shot and story to go with it.
Thank you Berni - Thunderbirds is certainly available on Amazon UK, because my daughter bought it! The model effect in the shot was created by using Tiltshift to process it.
Thank you Therese, glad you like it - the focus is digital trickery, I used the online editor 'Tiltshift' to create the out of focus upper and lower parts of the shot!
Thank you Bob, glad you like it. Taking photos is a useful way of filling time between trains at Doncaster.
