Diamond Anniversary by fishers

Diamond Anniversary

Mum and Dad are celebrating 60 years of married life today.

Mum made her own wedding dress with help from her mum, who designed the bolero and waterfall sash. Unfortunately there are no photos showing the effect of the sash but her bridesmaids always commented on it.

Dad had a moustache until the wedding, when he was so nervous he ended up shaving it off instead of trimming it. The ribbon with his flower is a typical Ukrainian tradition.

Give them by big congratulations. To all members of you family to and to all relatives and friends. Are they born in Ukrainian? The wedding bouquet looks very familiar on the ones my Dad always made ( withe Dianthus and Asparagus setaceus leafs/greens)
Have a nice celebration and a great day.

What a wonderful achievement. Love the wedding photo and the information about your mum's wedding dress, the sash and the white ribbon your dad is wearing, really interesting. I do hope they have a wonderful anniversary.

Thank you for your good wishes and comments. I have passed them on to mum and dad. We had our main celebration yesterday and Ian has posted an up to date photo of the happy couple today. ( http://365project.org/fishers/365/2014-07-27).

Sadly, Mum is now seriously ill and this anniversary may be the last big family gathering with her physically present, but she and dad really enjoyed the celebration.

@pyrrhula Thank you Ferry for your comment and good wishes for mum and dad's anniversary. Mum is English and dad is Ukrainian. He came to Britain in 1947 after the last war. Mum's bouquet was bought by dad's best-man. She liked being reminded of the types of flower that were likely to have been in her bouquet. katharine

@bruni Thank you Bruni, for your good wishes, I passed them on to mum and dad. Mum is English and dad Ukrainian. Many Ukrainians went to Canada both before and after the war and I have a Ukrainian cookery book and Ukrainian cross stitch book from Canada. The recipes and patterns were those of the women who had emigrated to Canada, they also include information about Ukrainian customs. Katharine

@hshdebbie Thank you. They had a wonderful time seeing so many of the younger generations but it did make them tired. Katharine
