A little glimpse of the past today. Bradford had two major railway stations at opposite sides of the city centre, and both have moved location in recent years.
Exchange railway station (named after the wool exchange that it was built beside) was to the south-east of the town centre.
In the early 1970s a new transport interchange was built with a new railway station and bus station, sited slightly further from the town centre, and Exchange station was demolished. The site is now occupied by the Law Courts.
However, not everything was cleared. A retaining wall and this station entrance survive. Part of the station name is still visible across the top of the arch.
It was nice to see this reminder of the past, in an area where there has been considerable redevelopment, since not only were new Law Courts built on the station site, but on the opposite side of the road to this old entrance, a massive new shopping centre was opened a few months ago.
Nicely captured remnant of the past. Railway stations here are often re-purposed to museums or community centres when a line closes or passenger services cease.
Thank you all for your comments and favs - they are all appreciated.
I had a brows last night for old photos of Exchange station and it was an impressive building - such a shame it was demolished. Some railway stations have found new uses, but sadly not this one.
