Katharine and I have been on our travels again, and here in this shot we have just arrived at the railway station in the Pennine town of Hebden Bridge, a ninety minute journey west from York.
This is a well maintained old station with many traditional features. Large canopies shelter waiting travellers from inclement weather, there are hanging baskets of flowers, and the lights are in the form of traditional gas lamps (I assume they are now lit by electricity).
The first station here was opened in 1840, with the present buildings being opened in 1893. In recent years it has become increasingly busy, with some 750,000 passengers per year. It makes a very pleasant arrival point for a visit to the town of Hebden Bridge.
Thank you all for your comments and favs, they are very much appreciated.
I'm not sure if I like this railway station because it's so attractive, or partly because of good memories of times when we used to take the children to Hebden Bridge when they were young - great memories.
