When I posted a shot recently showing two buses being used as wedding transport ( http://365project.org/fishers/365/2016-08-02 ), I hadn't realised how popular it had become, but since then I've seen several.
In this shot, a Guy Arab III built in 1949 is seen in Leopold Street, Sheffield, painted in an attractive ivory and black colour scheme.
This vehicle was one of ten delivered to Accrington Corporation in 1949 and was regularly used on the service between Oswaldtwistle and Clayton via Church and Accrington. The other nine vehicles were withdrawn from service in the early 1960s, but this vehicle soldiered on after being converted to a breakdown vehicle, and it was used in this role for a further 20 years.
It has been fully restored and is now operated by Yorkshire Heritage Bus and is regularly used for wedding transport.
It hasn't caught on here yet a far as I know. on the high school graduation, his mother organized for a school bus to pick up all the graduates and their dates from her place. what a gathering of young people.
Thank you all for your comments and favs, which put this shot on the trending page!
I've been reserching a bit more about the Yorkshire Heritage Bus company, and it seems they have a fleet of 14 vintage buses, based at Luddenden Foot in Calderdale, West Yorkshire. Their base is beside the railway, so is probably on the site of the railway station or goods yard that once existed there. It appears that a cycle route passes right through the open parking area outside their building, so it is probably a good site to get more shots of the buses in the fleet - I've added that to my ever growing list of possible future locations for photography!
