Conservatory, Wentworth Castle, Barnsley

Restoration of the gardens of Wentworth Castle began soon after the millennium, and they were fully open to the public from 2007. However, the conservatory still lay disused and partly derelict.

Interest in it's restoration was stimulated by the BBC TV programme 'Restoration' in 2003, but it didn't win that contest. It wasn't until after it won £820,000 from the European Regional Development Fund that work could begin.

The result of the work which took place is something of a masterpiece, and it now houses a fascinating selection of plants from around the world.

Great shot of this beautiful glasshouse.
Most of them in our country are closed as the heating in winter cost to much. We`ve one in our city combined with a public swimmingpool so the can use the rest warmth of this and made it cheaper. Still not enough. .

Thank you all for your comments and fav, they are all very much appreciated.

It was quite fascinating to wander amongst the many and varied plants in the conservatory, and to discover numerous ones that were unfamiliar to me. The restoration has created a very valuable resource.
