Two shots from Saturday, when Katharine and I took a Moorsbus trip to Thornton Dale, on the southern edge of the North York Moors national park.
It is quite a while since we were last at Thornton Dale, and it is always interesting to see what has changed. We saw several wood carvings of animals and birds around the large pond that lies beside what was once a walled garden, but which, sadly, is now used as a car park. I particularly liked these two, carved into the trunk of a dead tree.
This was the starting point of a short walk through the area south of the main road in Thornton Dale, an area that we have not explored before. We usually walk northwards into the hills, but this quiet walk in a relatively flat area was a pleasant change. More from this walk tomorrow.
Thank you all for your lovely comments, they are very much appreciated.
In recent years wood carving seems to have increased in popularity, and I love to see the results of the artists efforts.
