Thirsk is a market town just over 20 miles north-north-west of York, and was the object of a bus trip for Katharine and I a few days ago. When we have a day there we usually spend some of our time walking on one of the many footpaths south of Thirsk close to Cod Beck and passing through the lovely vilage of Sowerby.
On the paths close to Cod Beck there are benches, and this shot was taken looking north from one of the benches on the west bank, and not far from Sowerby Church.
The bridge in this shot is all that is left of a lock being constructed here when Cod Beck was being adapted for use by barges from Thirsk south to the River Swale. Sadly, the scheme was never completed due to a lack of finance, so there are just a few remnants of the work that was done.
Thank you all for your lovely comments and favs, they are very much appreciated.
For those who like an educational walk, there is a trail beside Cod Beck which runs both north and south of Thirsk, with 15 information boards along the route highlighting features of interest along the way.
it is a nice place to go for walks
