The yarnbombers of Thirsk have been busy again, with their latest display now on show around the market town of Thirsk, so Katharine and I went to explore last Friday.
This display is rather different to previous displays. This time they have approached various shops around the town centre who have sponsored a hanging basket which the yarnbombers have created and which are on display outside the various shops. The sponsorship raised is to be used towards their next project. No details of that have been released yet, but I suspect there will probably be a display for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee in June.
The various hanging baskets created for the current display each reflect in some way the function of the shop where they are displayed. The basket in this shot is outside the 'Crafts of York' shop, described on Facebook as a traditional wool and haberdashery shop, and it is obvious from the hanging basket what the purpose of this shop is.
There are around 40 hanging baskets on display, although we did miss a few of them. What the search for the hanging baskets did reinforce was the large number and variety of shops to serve a relatively small population (estimated at 11,000 in mid 2020).
Thank you all for your lovely comments and favs, they are very much appreciated.
The craft skills of the Thirsk yarnbombers are very impressive, and their creations have become quite a tourist attraction for the town. We have visited Thirsk for almost every display for around four years, and we are always impressed.
