Tulip by fishers

Tulip

I went into York city centre on Thursday to see and photograph some animal sculptures that are currently on display. They are designed for children to play and climb on, and since our schools are still on half term there were lots of children around, so I didn't get too many pgotos of them. So that is a future project. Since then I have discovered the locations of more of the animals, so there are quite a lot to photograph.

The main thing I noticed in the city centre is just how busy it was. The visitors are back in force, and I felt quite uncomfortable in such a crowded setting.

The best part of my walk was time spent in the Museum Gardens. There are lots of varieties and colours of tulips in flower, although some are now rather past their best. Still I took photos of some of them, and I rather liked this combination of colour and light.

I finished my time in the city centre with a wander around the Edible Garden, a relatively recent extension to the Museum Gardens and quite a pleasant quiet part of the gardens and a nice place to sit and enjoy the variety of plants there.

Beautiful tulip. Like you I am very uncomfortable in a crowd. Last week I went to the funerary mass of a cousin of mine And the church was full of people. I was so anxious to be out and away that I couldn't resist leaving early besides I would not have known what was happening during the service if It wasn't something normal.

Thank you all for your lovely comments and favs, they are very much appreciated.

I couldn't help but compare the city centre on this walk with how it was two years ago with the deserted streets of the first lockdown. I had several walks in the centre of York during lockdown. We were allowed an hour a day to go out for exercise, and I took advantage of that. Hard to imagine now what it was like then, especially when the huge crowds of visitors have returned to the city centre.

@sangwann

It will be interesting to see if we can adapt again to busy places. During the school holidays I have avoided using the buses into the city centre since they have been running full. Fortunately it is a pleasant walk beside the river into the city and the weather has been dry. Also fortunately I know many ways through the centre on quiet side roads and alleys so I can avoid a lot of the crowds while I am there.
