Tiles

A couple of you asked yesterday about what happened to the decorated tiles that our daughters made. Well, for many years they stayed in a dark corner of our house, almost forgotten, but they have had a rather more active life in recent weeks.

When Louise and our family last visited, they were persuaded to take with them the two tiles, and sort out with Lucy who made which one and then Lucy could collect hers the next time they met up.

Sadly, they couldn't remember who made which one - in fact they couldn't even remember going tile making! Lucy decided she didn't want hers, so Louise decided they would make an interesting feature in her garden. The tiles then ended up in her spare room until today.

The top shot shows them in the spare room this morning, and clearly highlights the design. This was created by using two different colours of clay. The bulk of the tile was made with one colour clay, a mould was then pressed into the clay and then removed. The indentations were filled with a contrasting colour of clay and the surface made smooth, before they were fired to create the finished tile.

The lower shot shows that they have now moved into Louise's garden. This shot shows how thick they are (and therefore how heavy they were for me to carry!) By the time you see this they might have been installed in their allocated place in the garden. These photos were both taken by Louise and I put them into a collage. It looks like my request for Louise to take photos has prompted her to do something with them!

Delighted to hear of their fate - I rather like them. Hope they find their permanent home soon

Thank you all for your lovely comments and favs, they are very much appreciated.

It seems a bit sad in a way that our daughters can't remember making the tiles, but on the other hand it was just one of many experiences that they had that have helped to make them the people that they are now.
