Celebrating Football Success!

One family that really does a great job with their scarecrow each year have produced another impressive display again for the 2023 Haxby and Wigginton scarecrow festival, and at the same time are celebratingThe success of the England women football team in 2022.

It is amazing how realistic some of the scarecrows are. They have developed a long way from old clothes being stuffed with straw, and they make an entertaining few hours exploring the diverse creations.

Pity they are called scarecrows for their achievements. Beautiful shot and arrangement though.

Thank you all for your lovely comments and favs, they are very much appreciated.

It is interesting how the original scarecrows, in the farmers fields to deter birds from eating the crops, have evolved into an art form like so many of the ones on this scarecrow trail. The term scarecrow is now almost inadequate to describe what is on display.

It is still possible to see a traditional scarecrow near York. There is usually one in a field beside the railway visible from the train shortly after leaving York towards Leeds.
