Last weekend was the annual Haxby and Wigginton Scarecrow Festival, so Katharine and I went for a look. By good fortune, one of the rather strange bus routes around the edge of the city picked us up a few minutes from home, and dropped us off outside the start of the various scarecrow trails at Haxby and Wigginton Methodist Church.
Sadly, my achilles tendon is still not recovered, so we bought a copy of the shortest trail and followed that. It was essentially a walk east along one side of the High Street, and back on the other, with a few minor diversions along the way - a total of around 30 scarecrows to find.
I rather liked this scarecrow delivery person at the door with a food parcel, and the way the bicycle he arrived on has just been discarded.
Thank you all for your lovely comments and favs, they are very much appreciated.
It is amazing how realistic some of the scarecrows are. They have developed a long way from old clothes being stuffed with straw, although in this case you can just make out the straw around the boots, the hand and the neck. The face of this scarecrow does look familiar, but I'm not sure who he is in real life.
