This shot was taken at Rowntree Park in York, which Katharine and I reached after a lovely tree lined walk from the city centre. I haven't seen many poppies of this colour this year, but there were quite a few to be seen in this park. Sadly, many of them were past their best.
Rowntree Park opened on the 16th of July 1921, as a gift to the people of York from the Rowntree Family and it was “intended to serve as a perpetual memorial to the members of the Cocoa works staff that fell and suffered in the War”. Rowntree stated he wanted the park to “afford many rest and recreation from the turmoil and stress of life, and bring health and happiness to a large number of young lives”. From that day on, the park was owned and managed by York City Council.
Today, much of the maintenance of the park is undertaken by the Friends of Rowntree Park. What was the park keepers house is now a cafe / library run by York Explore, the organisation that runs the city libraries on behalf of the city council.
We spent some time watching groups of school children with their clip boards busy with a variety of tasks. It must be quite useful for a local school to have such a lovely local facility to use with children.
Thank you all for your lovely comments and favs, they are very much appreciated.
There have been some lovely displays of poppies around York this year, with quite a variety of colours and sizes. I haven't seen many this colour, but there were quite a few at Rowntree Park, though sadly many of them were past their best.

Thank you Vesna - I think the two colours add interest.
