Our walk back from Beningbrough Hall to Newton on Ouse was along the same attractive path that we had followed to get there. It is interesting to see the same walk in the opposite direction - there is a lot new to be seen when walking in the reverse direction.
Newton on Ouse is an attractive village. The road from the gatehouse at the entrance to Beningbrough Hall grounds through the village is lined by cherry tree - the road itself is called Cherry Tree Avenue. The trees are in their beautiful autumn colours.
The Blacksmiths Arms are at the northern end of Cherry Tree Avenue. This building is one of the few that can be seen from the road, with most houses having high hedges to protect their privacy.
The bus stop is just around the corner from here. Timing is essential, since there are only six buses a day into York, and we were aiming for the last bus of the day at 1514. Fortunately we and the bus were both on time!
Thank you all for your lovely comments and favs, they are very much appreciated.
Our bus trips have become an important part of our lives. Neither of us drive, so it is bus or train to wherever we are going. York is well served by train services in all directions, and the bus services are reasonable, despite cutbacks in recent years. The key to each of these adventures is timing - nothing worse than seeing the last train or bus of the day vanishing into the distance as you get to the pickup point!

Buses are so practical and you need to be on time for sure :-)
