But I don't know what causes clouds like that. The white ones are much higher and farther away than the dark ones in the shadow of nearby mountains.

Fantastic. I think those are called horsetails, caused when upper level winds grab a cloud and smear it across the sky. Maybe.

@ahleena Thanks. They look like horse tails but those happen only in the upper atmosphere. I think they were sent to remind us the X-Files TV show returns soon.
