The essential joy

I love horses. This portrait is of a Deputy Sheriff's horse. However, I posted it today because the thoroughbred, Justify, will attempt to become just the 13th horse to win the American Triple Crown at the 150th Belmont Stakes today. Four months ago, he had never run a race and now he is on the edge of racing history. Hoping for a safe win, retirement and off to the stud farm he will go. Secretariat is my all time favorite race horse, the Triple Crown winner of 1973. His margin of victory was 31 lengths at Belmont...an incredible horse but it was his spirit and big heart that I loved.
Beautiful on black.
PS... Justify won! Justify led the entire race and is now in the history books as the 13th Triple Crown winner.
@danette Thank you! I spotted this horse in Tampa. I asked if I could take a photo, then started to pet him, which was a no no! :( I cannot help myself. They are such majestic creatures!
Many thanks to you! I have had a love affairs with horses my whole life, all breeds, all sizes! I wish I could still have my own horse but its just too costly.
Many thanks to you! I love horses and so today was very exciting to watch. I do like this capture of such a majestic animal...gentle but you also need to respect its power.
@danette How special and exciting! I would have loved to be on a horse farm!!! I got a retired thoroughbred polo pony for my 13th birthday and later, another thoroughbred from the track. We boarded at Will Rogers Historic Park in Pacific Palisades, CA. I rode English and competed in horse shows in equestrian and hunters and jumpers. I will always be a huge fan of horses! They have a piece of my heart and I melt when I see one!
