May the music from
an Angel's harp
lift your spirit and
touch your soul.

One of Catalina Island's landmark hotels, Hotel Atwater, celebrated its grand re-opening of the nearly 100 year old hotel. The hotel was named for Helen Atwater, the wife of Philip Knight Wrigley, the son of William Wrigley. The hotel closed for renovations and modernization but plans were meticulously designed to keep the spirit of Helen Atwater Wrigley in place including using her favorite color of teal. The harp, owned by Helen, decorates the lobby as does the family safe which displays books on the history of the Wrigley family. The beautiful harp is estimated to be worth $500,000 and is quite beautiful. The harp comes with a silk cover embroidered with HAW, Helen's initials, also on display and sitting on her stool. I took several photos of the harp but liked this more unique view the best. Best on Black.
We peeked in on the reception and grand opening but did not wine and mingle. We had just returned from our Two Harbor excursion and had wind blown hair, dusty and dirty from our 1/2 mile walk down a dirt road in flip flops to Catalina Harbor and we were not appropriately dressed to hob nob with anyone.
Fascinating information below on the Lyon and Healy harp history as well as Hotel Atwater:
Phillip must have loved Helen very much! I wonder if anyone gets to play that harp and of course it would have to be tuned. All the historic followers would be dressed up to the nines for something like this. Nice to go to your hotel room and shower and rest!
