Resting

Butterly or moth, I'm not sure what this is but he was sitting on our deck chair today and stayed long enough for me to go back into the house and get the camera for a picture. The antennae suggest a butterfly according to Wikipedia but I though butterflies held their wings open when they were sitting and this one didn't. After I shot several he flew around me a few times and landed on me but I couldn't get a shot of that. I thought his eyes were interesting.
im gonna say butterfly cuz I hate moths. nice browns peeking out

Trust me, Katy. After being in the butterfly house three times, butterflies do not always open their wings when sitting. They "tease" you by fluttering the wings and tempt you to SNAP the camera. But they open them wide when they WANT to. :) Gorgeous capture here.

@marilyn I appreciate it. They looked crosshatched to me instead of the way we usually see bug eyes. Thanks so much!

@karenann Karen is right, Katy....butterflies hold them closed too. Those teeny tiny purplishgray ones almost always do. Except for Carolyn White @cjwhite

@cjwhite Well thank you so much for the information, Carolyn and the comment.. I have never heard of it before but then I am not an avid student of butterflies either. I do however enjoy their beauty.
