Things Are Looking Up

I haven't noticed this type of hummingbird near my house before. The little dot on his throat caught my eye. I am uploading it in an earlier spot so I can ask the guru about it.

@grammyn Haha...well, the small iridescent patch usually means it's female, but I've never seen one with greenish colors like that. I will have to look through my hummingbird field guide....to be continued!

@grammyn Females and immature males are really hard to tell apart. My guess is Ruby-throated immature male?

@vskolnik @grammyn I think you are correct! More likely the ruby-throated immature male--The patch does not show up on the female I think. One of the females I thought was a female is in fact a male I discovered this afternoon (one tiny bright red patch starting). This is a beautiful catch! LOVE IT. Fav.

@vskolnik Thanks so much for the effort! i have to admit my knowledge is very minimal! Since I have seen several ruby throated ones around I am sure you are right. I didn' t know what the babies looked like.

A great catch at this angle, and I was going to guess, a Ruby Throated
