End of an era. by happypat

End of an era.

We have today watched the cubicle house where all our cows used to live when they were inside during the winter being taken down. For many years Harry & Brian our son ( & many a time me too ) tended, cleaned & bedded up 110 cows day & night 365 days a year. Since we retired & sold the land & buildings the new owner is still farming beef & sheep but intends to develop the old brick farm buildings. This is our side of the wall & tonight even the spars are no longer there. Quite sad really but we are so glad to be retired ! Today our son who worked with Harry for 30 years is back from NZ on holiday for the first time in 2 years so he was amazed at the change in the place ! Tonight I have been for the first class in my photography course...we are a real mixed bag!! One lady didn't even have her camera charged up !! I have learnt a couple of things so I live in hope ! Watch this space !!
That is such a beautiful wall and I love your blue door Pat. I'm not surprised you're sad about the cubicle house when it was such a big part of your life but so long as he doesn't put something ugly in its place you might a least have more sun when you're lying in your retirement deckchair! NZ is a long way away - but an amazing place to go and visit - my brother-in-law is quarter Moari so my sister has been a few times - it's on my dream list.

@judithg The condition was if he wanted to develop the building that the building had to come down & it actually looks a lot nearer in this photo than it is ! The blue door is an outhouse.

Backbreaking work cleaning up after 110 cows! I am not surprised you enjoy being retired. I love the red
brick wall with its rounded copestones. Enjoy your son's visit!

It's a great photo, and I'm sure it was tough watching that part of your life go away.

Sounds like a bittersweet story but changes and phases can be an exciting time. I look forward to hearing more about your photography class.

looks a nice play to relax Pat, does it get the sun ? I can 'see' you with a glass of wine 'chilling' out browsing your images on you camera / computer :)

I love the brickwork! Such a beautiful outdoor space.
Sounds like you and Harry deserve a happy, relaxing retirement after the years of hard work ~ seven days a week. Enjoy!
I think you're going to love photography class! I came away from my classes with much more confidence with my camera. Have fun! :)
