Lancaster is the county town of Lancashire & this is a view of the castle. There has been a fort on this site since 79AD & until March of this year it was also a prison. The castle stands on a hill overlooking Morcambe Bay & the North of England.
Lancaster was known as the Hanging Town at one point because they hanged more prisoners here then any where else in the country! The Pendle witches were tried here in 1612 & in more recent times the trial of the Birmingham Bombers in 1975 also took place in this court.
Lancaster itself is a delightful town with much history... sandstone buildings, a beautiful Priory Church adjacent to the castle & numerous small individual shops.
@karenann@jmj Thank you ! It was difficult to pick a picture tonight as there were larger ones of the castle but they were spoilt by bollards & stuff. I thought this gave a bit of a feel to the old town. Might post the Priory tomorrow.
@shutterbugger It's surprising the new words you pick up on 365 !! Thanks for your comments ! @snowy I couldn't seem to get all the castle in...too near when you get right up to it I think, this is just a little glimpse !
