A row of walking sticks. by happypat

A row of walking sticks.

Last year when we went to the show I was absolutely fascinated by this carved walking stick class so was determined to take a picture for 365. This little selection is only about a third of the entrants but the detail is better on this closer photo.
There were all different classes for different sorts of carvings & heads. Some are called a thumb stick were you just hold the walking stick with your thumb & some incorporated bone....it was a really interesting display!
Of course walking sticks & shepherds crooks are very important in the sheep & walking county of Cumbria & the Lake District.
What a lot of skill and time must have gone into producing these. A great shot.

All you need are a few hats and you have the makings for a great broadway show.

Oh how interesting - don't think I've seen walking sticks in any of the town/rural shows around here. Great capture!
