Roy & Sandra were definitely in !!! The fire was on & you could smell cooking & it all looked very inviting on this canal barge. People live in these boats all year round & now & again set off up & down the Lancaster Canal when they feel like a change of scene . This canal is now joined up at the southern end to the Leeds Liverpool Canal & you can travel all the way from Kendal in the north to Leeds & Liverpool. There is a short branch off just to the west of Lancaster which goes to Glasson Dock & then out into the Irish sea. I will photo that one day as there are six locks there & is quite interesting. There are lots of these barges moored along this stretch of the Canal around Garstang. I think you can sail along the Lancaster bit lock free for 42 miles so it is a pleasant easy run.
I had a lovely walk yesterday walking off all the excesses of the week end !
Lovely shot - I remember reading story-books about people living on canal barges with horses that used to tow the boats...I desperately wanted to live on one!
Looks lovely and cosey - nicer than a lot of houses I should think although lots of maintenance and You've got to keep those logs topped up. At our river festival recently they had house-boaters loves and hates and one of the 'loves' was the sound of ducks nibbling the weed on your boat!
