This is our wonderful village bakery in Great Eccleston. Here I buy my bread, all baked in the kitchens in the back...Donker loaf, corn bread , spelt & honey, besides the usual farmhouse & wholemeal loaves.
They sell cakes, pies, hot soup & everything you could think of , the queue in here nearer lunchtimes is right outside sometimes!
Today they celebrated 25 years in business so anyone who wanted could go upstairs & have a coffee or a glass of fizz & eats. A friend was next to me in the queue this morning so we both went up willingly & partook !!!
Only had a small glass as I got a speeding ticket in the post yesterday so didn't want to be done for drink driving too !!!
Speeding ticket Pat - I think I may have to 'unfollow' ;0) !! I was semi-forced to go out by a neighbour last night as she said she owed me a favour for looking after her cat. When I got to then venue it was a wine-tasting event for which I had to buy tickets (minimum £5) and then spend them on wine samples. I was driving so had one sample for my £5 andwas left wondering how exactly this was supposed to be a treat - and felt really guilty driving eben though I'd had hardly anything. But your bakery looks fantastic - the thing I miss most about Lancashire is meat and potato pies (with a bit of Piccallili (sp?)) - you just can't get anything like them down here. I cold just reach in and take one of those!!
@robinwarner@stepheesue Haven't made up my mind whether go to speed awareness course costing £90 & keep my clean licence or just pay the £60 plus 3 points , would be cheaper to do that , will have to think about it !! Thanks for your commiserations !
@judithg Well Judith that was an expensive sample of wine , YOU should have had a lift then you could have indulged "!!! Not much of a treat !!! As for the speeding well it is my very first offence in over 40 years of driving !!! Some great pies in this shop too !!
Pat, you have really captured a great feel and warmth to this shop. They obviously have a good following to be able to keep trading in this day and age, 25 years is a long time!!
@samdan Yes it's a fantastic bakery although they call it a Patisserie on the shop front but they make good stuff.. a family firm run by mum with son & daughter too!!!
Great light Pat...it looks busy! tisk tisk on your speeding ticket. Don't you know you're not supposed to get caught? I have to ask...what is Donker Loaf?
Pat, a speeding ticket, my my. I will not say a word. It has been a long time for me so I do not want to jinx myself. Hey, the bakery sounds wonderful, and when I went on my weight loss challenge, bread was probably one of the toughest things to give up. I love my bread.
well I'm laughing a little at the speeding ticket thing Pat - but not so loud that I want to attract one myself. The bakery looks and sounds wonderful. We have a little bakery like this in Port fairy - which is just gorgeous - but they recently renovated and it has lost a little of its old world charm. Glad you and your friend made the most of the upstairs option.
I can SMELL that heavnly place. How wonderful to have this near you . . my hubby would be going there everyday. (big, bread lover!) Haven't had spelt bread in years now. Lovely photo and just a great story to stir up my memories. P.S. A speeding ticket, Pat? Now you know if you're like me you should have gotten a photo of that policeman and also if you go to that school . . it's just another photo op. :)
I love the angle you shot at ..the counter and light take us right into the heart of the shop.
Be careful behind the wheel... :)
