Just stocking the biscuit tin for Harry for while I am away. I do try & leave him some supplies in the cupboard & freezer before I set off !! Easy stuff like cottage pies & he loves fish too but Harry is very self sufficient & can cope on his own well !! I think it makes me feel better if I know there is plenty of food in. The women's guilt thing I guess !!!
The patient has been moved to a different ward today & I did remember to pay the car park fee !!
Out for the next three nights& I appreciate your patience about the commenting bit !
Recipe for anyone who wants it !!! ( Judith ! )
1/2 lb plain flour
1/2 sugar
1/2porridge oats
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon Baking powder
1 teaspoon bicarbonate soda
1/2 lb margarine
2 tablespoons of syrup.
Melt the syrup & margarine in a pan & add all the dry ingredients together.
Roll into small balls & bake in a fairly hot oven.
Thanks for inviting us into your kitchen again, Pat! Now if you'll just look the other way for a moment, I'll grab a couple of those cookies! Oh . . forgot . . they belong to Harry. Like my husband, I'm sure that he's very capable of taking care of himslef. But they don't mind a little pampering either, eh? Lovely photo . . has that "yummy" appeal. :)
Oh I do like your kitchen shots!! I left food when I went to Puerto Rico but nothing as yummy as those biscuits!! Whose recipe? I don't know how you're fitting all this in what with packing and hospital trips as well!!
1/2 WHAT of sugar, and half WHAT of oats (and what are porridge oats?). Oh my, I didn't know recipes needed translations! I am SO not a baker - so I will not attempt to bake them, I will just gaze longingly since they are not in my "allowed" list. Sigh. They are lovely.
I think we make something very similar down here Pat and we call them ANZAC biscuits. According to wikipedia, It has been claimed the biscuits were sent by wives to soldiers abroad because the ingredients do not spoil easily and the biscuits kept well during naval transportation. I love them, whatever they are called. You are a good wife. Won't tell tim that you fill the tins before you leave! LOL
Those look wonderful! (And so thoughtful of you to include the recipe...I love what we call 'oatmeal cookies'). Harry is a lucky man! Sounds like he will be in good shape while you're away, Pat. Glad you cleared the hospital parking without a problem...I doubt you'll forget to pay anytime soon! :)
@bpaquette I did wonder if some folks wouldn't understand the measurements Barbara !!! It's in Imperial measure which is what I am used to !!! Half a pound is 8 ounces or I guess 225 grammes. Porridge oats are just oats you make porridge with, sort of oatmeal but more a crushed flaky version ! If any one has a better explanation please post !!!! Hope this helps Barbara !! I would think you will have a version of something similar in your country , they are very common !!
@murnane Well I always do try & keep this biscuit tin filled to give the B&B's when they arrive & they keep well !! The same as your Anzac biscuits Marg !!!
@stepheesue Just what we call golden syrup Stephanie which comes in a tin & is runny . The actual name on the tin says Lyle's Golden Syrup & it's in a green & gold tin. f I can't find anything else to post after the hospital visit I might show you !!!
@happypat thank you! I actually HAVE some Lyle's syrup for some reason ( long story) so I'm good to go! One more question: 1/2 of what of sugar and oats? 1/2 POUND? I'm going to attmept to bake this weekend no matter what! thanks for the recipe. hope you're weekend goes well!
