Lancaster Gate. by happypat

Lancaster Gate.

A rather interesting Ironwork factory in the City of Lancaster.

I did try this as a black & white but it didn't show the wonderful RSJ's up very well. Also wasn't sure whether to crop out the sign or not but in the end left it like this. What do you think ?
I like it...wonder what it would be like in b and w with selective coloring on the cobble stones?

Oh the colours are lovely, best left I think and not cropped any more, its more interesting to see working stuff!! I remember visiting Lancaster Castle prison, fascinating and learnt the origins of phrases like 'money for old rope' and 'kick the bucket' !!! Sorry I'm rambling.......lovely shot!!

@fannyb Great Lancashire phrases Fanny & the prison is fascinating.

@jgpittenger Not sure I am up to doing selective colours on the cobbles Jane but it definitely sounds good !!

@ruthmouch Well it was shut today & Harry was roped in to have a walk round Lancaster all in the name of 365 !! He is getting less embarrassed now when I whip the camera out in the middle of a busy street !!

@happypat would be tricky with the gate I bet. It inspired me to play around with doing it for today's extra

I like it just the way it is ....with no cropping anything out OR making it into a b&w. No! It's perfect. A gorgeous pov and just LOVELY!

@karenann Thank you Karenann I must admit I did like the colours in this shot !!

I also like this in colour. it would be interesting to compare it with it in b&w

Like it - great colours in the gate as well. And the signs keep the proportions correct and add context. No cropping allowed!

@snowy I did try in b/w but it was messy & not defined enough !

I like the sign in there too Pat - because it puts the gate in perspective. Glad you left it in colour - coz I'm loving that pop of blue.

i love all things monochrome Pat, but colour is the way to go here. The colours are lovely and need to be here

Glad you kept the vibrant blue. I find it intriguing and want to know what lies beyond...

Okay, I have to ask - RSJs??? I love the pic as it is - gives a clue to what's around without giving away too much :)

The scene does offer up a nice mix of colors, and I think it's fine that you did not crop out the sign. Good the way it is.

@kwiksilver Those big girders across the ceiling Gillian but I have no idea what RSJ stands for !

Marvelous composition, Pat. I love all of the components that give this scene such character ~ the iron gate, cobbled drive, and the peeling paint on the brickwork. The green rafters are intriguing enough to make me curious as to what lies beyond the gate. Well done!
