Escapee. by happypat

Escapee.

One of our Cuckoo Maran hens has been escaping out of the pen during the last couple of days & making a bee line for the bird table.
We couldn't fathom out where she was escaping from.....when we got home late last night she had found her way back & put herself to bed!
This morning we watched closely & the little monkey had been squeezing through the slats in the gate...some hens are never satisfied & the grass is always greener.........
She had been out for a while then took herself back to the nest box to lay her egg & Harry blocked her in, you can see her desperate efforts to get out in the second photo.
A new piece of wood & we have cracked it!!! I don't know what Harry has been leaning against but his coat had chalk all over the back.

Margaret Thatcher..'the iron lady'' died today, if you agreed or disagreed with her opinions no one could not deny she was a very strong lady for Great Britain.

I have to apologise for the non existent commenting last-night.....we were home latish & then I spoke to my daughter in law & Max on the phone then time for ''The Village'' which I am rather disappointed with up to now so I never got round to doing any commenting.
Thank all of you who still left messages on my sheep collage in spite of my neglect!!

Three good things:
1. Happy Birthday to Lesley in NZ.!
2. I have made a pig of myself today as I am going to Weightwatchers tonight for the very first time in my life!!! Going to give my neighbour a bit of support she needs to lose some weight for a wedding & I want to lose half a stone to get to my ideal weight before summer dress time....I am nervous!!!!
3. By 8pm it will be over & I will be back home!!!
Clever hen! Everyone needs to get once in a while. Thatchers dead? Where's the party??

@fueast There will be many saying that Alison but I am in the other camp I'm afraid & think she was one of the greatest PM ever...but there again I am older than you & saw what was before!!!! Better than thew wimps in Parliament now!!
April 8th, 2013
@happypat I'm afraid we will differ on both counts then! Its too late now I think as we will never get rid of the culture of greed that developed in the 80's. Also I don't believe the present government to be wimps. They are ploughing boldy forward with lots of changes without much thought about the long term consequences. I agree that Thatcher was a better politician than any of the current lot I suppose. Anyway, I will leave your thread alone now! Please delete my rants if you like.

great series of shots Pat - love the sleuthing!! Loving the political debate above...I'm in the camp that thinks she was an inspirational leader...I was just reflecting that she was in power when I was 7 til I was 18 - throughout my formative years for sure...it's the only period of time I think I could tell you most of the names of politicians who were in power and their positions. Wouldn't have a clue nowadays, they are all so dull!
April 8th, 2013
@fueast Oh no wouldn't dream of it Alison, I love a good debate & the staff of life for us all to have different ideas!!!!
April 8th, 2013
@sparkle Boooo!
April 8th, 2013
@sparkle I agree there Juliette the country was going through such change in those days & Trade Union domination so much to the fore but loved the way she stood up for our rights abroad ...took no truck from Brussels & look where we are today, they practically run our country!!!
I think I shouldn't have started this subject perhaps but I love we all have different views!!!
April 8th, 2013
Great triptych. Love it.
April 8th, 2013
@happypat I'm also very much in favour of Brussels you will be shocked to hear. The protection of the environment and workers rights is more important to me than making the rich richer!
April 8th, 2013
@fueast @happypat and we shouldn't forget she probably did a lot for women in this country too...that's gotta count for something!!
April 8th, 2013
@sparkle I think you'll find Barbara castle did more!
April 8th, 2013
@fueast Ohh hehe Alison we are like chalk & cheese ..what fun we could have !!!!!I do agree that they look after workers rights very well which I am in great favour of course but go too far in other ways!!! Brussels have great influence in the Farming world but that is another story which we won't go into!!!! Better not anyway!!!!!
Thank you my friend for good debate!!
April 8th, 2013
@sparkle @fueast Yikes !!!! Pistols at dawn !!!!!
April 8th, 2013
@fueast @happypat maybe but I am too young to remember her...! tee hee!
April 8th, 2013
@sparkle Wish I could say that!!!!!
April 8th, 2013
I'm meant to be concentrating on a benefits case for my client and not getting very far...I'll be known as "that woman who never did any good" if I don't knuckle down! I'm sure the debate will continue in my absence!!
April 8th, 2013
@sparkle I am in no doubt Juliette, we might have some more members in yet!!!
April 8th, 2013
Had to chuckle !! what a clever little chucky !! did she lay extra special eggs after being on the special wild bird seed diet ?? good luck tonight at the Weight watchers --- in all honestly I should desperately try to loose weight !! My friend comes over for a coffee & a weigh in on a Friday morning & she is doing better than me at the moment !!
April 8th, 2013
@beryl I could back out easily Beryl but can't let friend down now!!!!
April 8th, 2013
@sparkle So am I but one can read.... Anyway you're safe I'm off out to have a drink with like minded people at the local anarchist bar!
April 8th, 2013
great photo Pat at least the Cuckoo is back now and is no longer FREE RANGE as in roaming around and escaping : - )
April 8th, 2013
Oh my word - first - love your hen!! She can escape to my pen except that she wouldn't want to - they've eaten everything green! Second - I didn't dare mention the Iron Lady in my bumf. I think I fall in between - there's no doubt she sorted out a big mess but I think she went a bit far. She most definitely told us what she believed in though - the current lot are so bland!! None of them seem to have any balls (sorry - lowering the tone but it's the only word that seems to fit and ironically Mrs M certainly did have). Anyway - my Mum and Dad will be fully with you Pat but I think some things she set in motion needed to be reined in later on. And my friend's mum is in an old folk's home with somebody who knew her as a child and says she used to cut boiled sweets in half rather than give you over your 2 oz at her dad's shop. Still - beats throwing money around like confetti which is done by some politicians!
April 8th, 2013
What a very clever hen. You have put an end to the great escape.
What ever any one thinks about Margaret Thatcher she was a very strong lady.
April 8th, 2013
@judithg I think our age group specially probably relates more to her than you younger & more thinking group...we held politicians on a higher pedestal....we know better these days. I think towards the end she sort of lost the plot but her biggest mistake was she didn't listen & got too big for her boots!
A good debate ....yes?
April 8th, 2013
@happypat Oh yes - there will always be a debate about her I think! The other reason your (and mum & dad's) age group rate her more highly is that you can remember more of the disaster that was unfolding before she came in. I feel that the problem now is that they are all absolutely terrified of bad press - and more of them need to have had a real job before they become MPs.
April 8th, 2013
@judithg At the time she became PM she seemed to be a whirl of energy & determination & compared with the dull men before her a breath of fresh air so yes we probably do view her through rather rose coloured specs but my word she did fight her corner for Britain.
April 8th, 2013
Good shots. It amuses me an escapee hen. Our friend has a hen that used to fly into the tree. He has had to make his garden like a prison to stop her escaping.
April 8th, 2013
@happypat Actually I was at Lark Hill when she was elected and I remember Sr Gabriel saying, 'We're hoping for a woman in No 10!' and she was so excited at a leap forward for feminism. My mum told me that they'd got in trouble in the polling station because one of the elderly nuns had come out of the booth and said, 'Who is it again we're voting for Reverend Mother?'!
April 8th, 2013
@happypat @judithg uh oh I'm back! Please explain to me how thatcher was a feminist and what she did for women. It was Barbara castle that fought for equal pay not thatcher. I don't believe I rememBer thatcher fighting for affordable childcare, communities, social value or anything else that matters to women. She just showed that some women can be as bombastic and power hungry as some men with the same inability to listen and we are still stuck with this style of management now. I experience it every week at work. She was an individualist and hated the feminist movement!
April 8th, 2013
@fueast I have just heard Tebbit say she did more for feminism than anyone else so who knows Alison ....she was the first woman PM so a pretty good example I suppose but there again I am too old to know or care about much feminism!! I grant you was very bombastic but surely she is not responsible for attitudes in the work place today 30 years later?
April 8th, 2013
@happypat actually I do sort of believe that. The each for his own principle became engrained in the 80s and it is a hard thing to change. As Judith says no one has the balls to do it now.
April 8th, 2013
Great story and photos to go with it. Almost like watching a film. How was the ww meeting
April 8th, 2013
@sparkle @fueast @judithg
On this note we shall close tonight's debate....,conclusion a draw!!!!
thanks ladies it has been fun!!!!!!xxxxxxx
April 8th, 2013
@khirsch The meeting went fine Karin thank you but what a performance all this point counting...think i shall just stick to usual on a smaller plate & no sweets & see how i go...only 7lbs to lose so should manage it hopefully, the weighing will hopefully keep me on the straight & narrow!!!
April 8th, 2013
@happypat darn I just had Shirley Williams on my side....
April 8th, 2013
@fueast Hehe I liked Shirley Williams!!!
April 8th, 2013
@fueast Ps. Is she still alive?
April 8th, 2013
@happypat she's on news night explaining why thatcher did nothing for women!
April 8th, 2013
@fueast Ah I missed that & well she would wouldn't she !!!! BTW I loved the blue glove quip!!!!
April 8th, 2013
Well where do I start? I've come in at the end of a long debate. First - I like your pictures and story of the hen. Second, I think she has a lot to answer for. I thought she was a good strong leader at first but as time went on she just went too far. Most of what the country is suffering from now is a direct result of her policies.
April 8th, 2013
We had a hen escaping and had to play spies from behind a tree to watch her - she was flying up on to a ledge, then just managing to get over the high fence - thats in spite of having her wings clipped! We clipped the other wing and that solved it! Hey, weightwatchers - that is a committment! Good for you but there will be no yorkshire pudding with the roast beef!
April 8th, 2013
Lovely story of your hen escapee! Poor thing ... just wanting to explore the great wide world :)
April 9th, 2013
Well I'm glad you finally figured out how she was getting out.
April 9th, 2013
Love your collage here. We have had an excapee who simply vanished for 4 or 5 days but then Marshall found her next door and with some judicious herding she is home again.
April 9th, 2013
Great triptych tell a story
April 9th, 2013
@busylady Oh Judith you should have been in from the start.......we have had a great time chatting!!! All I know now is she is a great discussion subject!
April 9th, 2013
Glad i wasn't in on that one.....certainly remember the mess we were in before her, rats, piling rubbish no one would o their jobs, then Heath who was a complete prat and the 3 day week because the miners went on strike......all those businesses that failed as we had no electricity....she did well, got us out of a mess, made the country strong again but stayed in power too long.......thats all i have to say!!
April 9th, 2013
Oh my. She is a determined one, eh? Bet she's not too happy with Harry's "fix".
April 9th, 2013
@fannyb hehe Fanny serves me right for mentioning the no no of politics but we had a good banter & no hard feelings ........I did try to be diplomatic when mentioning her in the blurb but she was the sort of woman who can bring out strong feelings! She stayed far too long I agree!
April 9th, 2013
oooh err Pat, gr8 story about your hen and a great montage too ..... well there was some emotional stuff in the Thatcher debate above. I have my views, but won't comment as my grandad once wisely told me "don't discuss politics or religion with your friends" because they will not be your friends for long !!!
April 9th, 2013
@phil_howcroft Quite right Phil but quite enjoyed the above debate & I think we all kept our cool. I didn't think my innocent remark would stir such emotion but that is the nature & M Thatcher..!!!
April 9th, 2013
Love the collage as a story board-- very nice.
April 10th, 2013
Superb Pat!!!!! Love the hen saga......I started reading the comments somewhere in the middle of the page and I thought the hen was on newsnight!!!!!!
