Bonfire night is almost upon us..... 5th November...gunpowder, treason & plot.
All to do with Guy Fawkes trying to blow up the British Parliament in 1605 if anyone is not in the know.
Bonfires & fireworks are lit & for a few weeks before you sometimes see children with these effigies wanting money for fireworks.
This young man was very polite & I gave him 50p for a photo although as you can see he tried to dodge out of the way!
When I had taken this photo the boy tipped his money out of the mask on the dummys knee & put it over the face....a more scary one but I have chosen the photo with this bonny young man.
Three good things:
1. I have booked my flight to NZ next February.
2. A clean car.
3. The final tonight!!!!!
Oh no - not that time again! Great news about NZ. Might see you there as we're also going for a visit early next year! I can't watch the Bake Off until I get home from a meeting - boo!
A great shot No wonder he was trying to dodge the camera --but some what early wasn't he !! lol !! Like his stance and the poster He placed himself so well !!!!!
I think the last time I saw a boy with a guy was in Chorley - not very common these days so a good find Pat. At least he's made an effort. We used to be big into bonfire night at my CofE primary school but it wasn't to be mentioned at the convent!
Fun find, Pat! A wonderful street shot...and kind of cute that your subject was trying to duck the photo even after you'd paid him. :) Love your tradition of Guy Fawkes Night.
And I know you are looking forward to your month with your New Zealand family!
Is Harry not coming with you? It's an awful thought burning dummies but I expect its such an old custom, nobody actually thinks about it! You were generous giving him 50p!
@maggiemae No on my own this time maggie...Harry has been to NZ 4 times & I think this is my 8th or 9th not sure. Harry is not a great traveller proffering to be at home & as we were only there last January he has decided to stay home. Will be all babies this time too so he will mind the animals.
well it's ages since i've seen one of these Pat, nice shot and i see you are paying for your pictures now...£1-00 for a broccoli , £0-50 for the Guy ...hope your funds last :)
@phil_howcroft Yes I have just realised you are right....£1.50 so far this week...worth it I think as my Peaks photo is actually on PP thanks to all you good kind people!
We still have Guy Fawkes in NZ but with daylight saving takes forever to get dark to get full effect!
NZ bound here you come. So excited to be meeting you all going well. February will come round so fast!
I love a good bonfire. And fireworks. I heard some last night as I was falling asleep. Then wondered why. Couldn't come up with a reason, then thought maybe it was gunfire. Didn't hear sirens so I guess it WAS fireworks. Fell asleep peacefully.
It brings back memories of a great telling off when mum found out that I had been out with a friend and a guy asking for pennies. I still love Guy Fawkes night.
And I know you are looking forward to your month with your New Zealand family!
Have fun!
