Coniston Water by happypat

Coniston Water

We spent part of the day at Coniston Sailing Club watching our SIL sailing with a friend. A beautiful part of the Lake District & of course it's where Donald Campbell lost his life in 1966 when he tried to break the world speed record in his boat Bluebird.

The Swallows & Amazon book was based here too, written by Arthur Ransome.....I loved reading that book as a child.
Excellent shot, just love those reflections and the sheen on the water.

The water is so flat! I like the cloud and blue sky reflections on it.

I read that as Donald Campbell lost his wife and wondered why I didn't remember that. Must learn to think harder. It's a lovely spot

I loved the Swallows and Amazon too - thought they were based in Norfolk. Didn't know this about Campbell! Certainly looks sheltered and calm here with great reflections!
