When we made this new drive to our house we planted this row of copper beech trees along the side.....they turn a beautuful colour in the winter.
What I really wanted to show you was that in the distance between trees five & six all our animals are buried.
Jenny, Henry & the most recent one Tui. Our next door neighbours loved Tui & as they live for most of the year in Abu Dhabi they had no idea until they came back at Christmas that she had died.
Before they left this year they put some flowers on her grave.......you can just see them there.
I have just started reading Wolf Hall, has anyone managed to get to the end ? I am enjoying it so far but only started it this morning .....I sm still on the kindle sample so wondering whether to buy the book.
I have a problem with my iPad in that when I want to type on someone's timeline the keyboard is half way up the page & over the place I want to write.....I have tried dragging it down but no go....it works fine everywhere else which is a relief or I wouldn't be able to write all this long chat!
Three good things:
1. Free books from Tesco all about Android phones & Seniors Edition of ipad ....always good to learn! It hasn't helped with the problem above though!
2. Cathy popped in at lunchtime in between appointments for feet.
3. Our central heating oil is almost haf the price it was last year!
That seems an apt resting place for Tui. I bet she would enjoy the comings and goings. How lovely green your grass is! Ours is buried under 6 inches of snow. You must have read "The Copper Beech" by Maeve Binchey...one of my favorite authors!!!
Nice to have all your loved pets in the same place .. sounds like Jack needs to get on the job to fix Nana's ipad.. and a good thing the price of oil has come down for you... keep the home fires burning.. nice shot..
So, fuel's gone down with you too! The grass is beautifully green here and the beeches are a heavenly colour - they are quite young still! We have left a succession of pet graves where we lived and moved on. Its rather sad leaving them behind. How nice of your neighbours to put flowers there.
I recommended it to our book group Pat. We all read all of it (that is not always the case). It was liked by all too, with varying degrees of zeal. I loved it, but I do love historical novels and my top ten would either have been written in another time, or be historical. Were the list to be 'modern' there would be some historical some psychological thrillers and maybe one sci fi. I also love books that do not have a genre as far as I know like: The Memory Keeper's Daughter, My Sister's Keeper and Skallagrigg.
@ceilidh thanks Margaret.....that's enough recommendation for me......I have read all the books you mention except Skallagrigg......will check that one out too!
@maggiemae Yes the trees are pretty young...they do seem to be a long time growing! Grass is green but pretty much always this colour, has to be really dry to go brown! I was quite touched when I saw the flowers!
Beautiful shot, looks like the perfect resting place. Love the sunlight on the trees too. Your grass is so green. Ours has almost disappeared at the moment. I water the plants in summer, but not the grass. Prefer to save our water for putting out bush fires.
We are known for our green grass I suppose Bas funny how we take it for granted! We never water the lawn no need with our rain! Bush fires sound frightening!
what a gorgeous capture of colours. How wonderful to have such a lovely resting place for your pets . I hope you don't mind I am attempting to do your three good things project :-)
Pat we have planned our holidays for this year but are in the thinking, researching stage for 2016. We were thinking, maybe of spending some time in the NW before crossing to Ireland. I believe you're situated in Lancashire and was wondering where you are and if you know a website that would tell us what your area has to offer. Sorry to be a nuisance.
Love the picture and your story. What a lovely idea for a resting place for your pets. Floods not serious. We quite often have this low level it's when the stile and the gate disappear under water that we get worried!! The worst bit is the everlasting mud when the water goes down.
@ceilidh no problem Margaret......will be on the lookout ...could go to the tourist office & send you some stuff if I had your address. My mobile is 07779177754 if you want to text me it sometime. You could stay with me or we could meet up while you are up her! Lots of lovely places in Lancashire...not all mills & terraces! The Ribble Valley, Vale of Lune, the coast line too up to Siverdale etc. Lancaster, Clitheroe castle & of course we are only 40 minutes from the Lake District. I will look up some websites for you over the next week!
A beautiful drive to your home, Pat...and wonderful landscape planning with the beech trees. Of course the reference to Jenny, Tui, and Henry touched my heart...especially sweet Henry. Such a beautiful spot for their final resting place. You've honored them well.
@dh interesting Delena.....I am only a chapter in at the moment but did read that the beginning was good then it tailed off. I hope I can decide before I get to the end of the sample!
I've gone all emotional now! I bet they were looking forward to seeing Tui. I loved the first chapter of Wolf Hall and had very high hopes but like @dh I ground to a halt. I would like to have another go sometime as the stage version is supposed to be brilliant. And I'm excited about the TV version. Mark Rylance was in the Twelfth Night we went to see (at the Apollo before the roof fell down!) and he is incredible.
@judithg good to hear your views Judith....I am hovering whether to actuall buy it.....she has quite an odd style of writing which takes a bit of getting used to..will have to decide when I resume reading later.
Fabulous photo. ...The light and colours are so strong. I love the copper beech colours too and the fact that they keep their old leaves until the new ones are coming through. Wonder if you can rotate your screen on iPad. I have a samsung tablet and that's how I solved the problem on it!
This is very lovely...and looks like spring. I love that your beloved pets are resting so near by .. in this lovely peaceful place. Great image and commentary Pat.
@boxplayer My friend has got it from the library Ayla & she likes the same type of book as me so am waiting for her verdict...she is enjoying it up to now...if she likes it I am going to buy the proper book so can look back if I need to! Thanks.
@sarah19 It righted itself Sallie so whether I did that & didn't realise that's why it solved the problem I have no udea...will bear that in mind if it happens again!
