Another cold but lovely day....no sign of any snow yet though it is forecast later.
Three good things:
1. A hair cut.
2. Replacement crockery from Emma Bridgewater in exchange for two cracked candle holders.
3. Pheasant for tea.....someone gave us two last night.
Lovely composition, Pat. Those red tubs really draw the eye. I think I would like it even better without the overhanging branches... hope you don't mind me saying this. I have never eaten pheasant!
@busylady thanks Judith...the pheasant was very tasty.....I do like it slow cooked. I must say though I would rather see these lovely birds walking about but when you are given a couple we hypocritically eat them!
The red really pops. Beautiful light and what lively undulating hills you have (undulation jealousy!!). Pheasant, lovely. We had some over Christmas, perfect with red cabbage and apple - yum!
If it wasn't for the leafless trees, it could be spring with the green fields! I've never had pheasant but did try wild duck once when a nephew shot one! Ugh - too many bones and too little flesh!
@snaphappi I know what you mean about the branches ...I would have cropped them if it had worked but they were too low & I don't mind at all...good to get feed back Maggie.
@lucypics sounds good that way too...I like games birds...love all the brown meat on Turkey etc & I love duck the best! These fells above Scorton go higher & higher but all very easily walked!
@maggiemae Yes you are right maggiemae the grass does look green here I can asure you it's only sharpened a little with no colour adjustment at all. We just remove the breast & slow cook it.......no messing with bones & feathers!
@jantan Curried pheasant would be very good.....we did enjoy it tonight though....such a beautiful bird to look at in the countryside! I suppose you could get tired of pheasant eventually!
@cejaanderson Yes I suppose this is a typical photo of the ordinary English countryside Jane. Not too too far out in the country ....a village 1 mile away but a five minute walk in you are among fields.
This doesn't look cold just green and peaceful. Found the pheasant for dinner interesting. Only ever seen the poachers being apprehended for catching them. Ordinary people enjoying them for dinner is a whole new image for me.
@ubobohobo lots of pheasants around now Margaret........you can almost run them over found here if you tried! We have one come to the bird table but I wouldntbdream of eating it! Only ones already dead that we have never met!
Like the composition. We have missed out somehow on pheasant this year. One local butcher was sending them to France one year as he got about 3 times as much for them!
Beautiful rural land with the sheep grazing peaceful -- your eyes are drawn to the sheep with the aid of the two red tubs -- the power of the pops of red !!! .
I quite like Pheasant and all game in moderation ! There are no butchers regularly selling game in Wellington but when we go to Ludlow in the south of the county they have a super butcher selling game -- but we do not travel down there often now ! As a child we had lots of game to supplement the meat ration -- dad used to go out shooting !
So gorgeous. Love all the green and textures. Beautiful landscape. Haven't we been following each other? I swear we were...I saw that you followed me and then I looked and saw that I wasn't following you yet. Strange!! But happy we are now!
Such a quietly beautiful scene. I would think it's early springtime looking at those soft shades of green...certainly doesn't look like snow could be in the forecast.
The grass round here is very green for January as well It looks more like spring and it's been growing all winter!. Pheasants don't really feel I should eat them but when shooting friend leaves a brace for what can you do!
We just take the breasts out and cook those but don't fiddle with the rest of it.
Walking in lovely landscape like this is such a pleasure. Lovely composition. The knoll of trees is such a feature of our countryside. Quite partial to pheasant. I like the hanging branches, think it frames and gives perspective.
