Harry & I have been to Harrogate in Yorkshire for the day. It's around 140 miles round trip from us depending whether you take motorway or country roads.
Harrogate is a lovely spar town, very gracious buildings & some expensive shops.
I went specifically to look in the Toast shop as I really like their clothes & the new catalogue had so much nice stuff in I had to go & have a proper look.
Made a good day out & we had our lunch in the famous Betty's which was a bit of a rip off but we have done it.
Gorgeous chips though!
A bit cross with myself that I didn't actually manage to get the name of this cafe in......a big mistake!
Three good things:
1. A big bargain in Toast in the sale which I am really chuffed about. Size six but it will stretch!!
2. Beautiful countryside along the way & over Blubberhouses.
3. I resisted a beautiful silk shirt from LK Bennet which was an outrageous price but I so wanted it!
@claireuk Ah yes so it is.......I didn't see that! Funnily enough Blubberhouses wasn't half as high or long as I had remembered. No sooner were we there than we were going down the other side! Must say the roads are a bit like a roller coaster around there!
Never heard of Betty's but have heard of Harrogate - it was the name of a particular toffee in Macintoshes and one I didn't like! What a funny name too, - Blubberhouses!
@julzmaioro ha ha Jukz.....size 6 is a woman's size ...very small but it's a shift type style so they are big for the size & Toast is a make of clothes! How interesting your dads family ate Yorkshire folk!
@maggiemae Blubberhouses is a small village just on the western side of Harrogate but is better known as a rather bleak section of high moorland which is quite treacherous in winter. Very bleak on the top but beautuful in the summer. A very odd name indeed. I would have liked to have stopped & take. A photo but there were cars behind so I darent stop!
A beautiful shot of this rather elegant Victorian façade and a beautiful busy street scene -- sounds as if you have had a good day and I envy the size 6 !! all I seem to do is put on the pounds but there are three factors - on more steroids again , lack of exercise used to be busy but now very immobile , and lastly do love my food and the steroids increases my appetite !
@beryl I am as far off a six as I could be Beryl......it's the shape & material that means I can just get into it....the sort of Jersey that will stretch too so will fit in a bit!
@gijsje that's interesting Bep...."..could be where the name came from. You are right the Tour de France went over Blubberhouses & ended that leg in Harrogate just 50yards from Betty's cafe!
Love Harrogate - we used to go to the spring flower show (lovely for daffodils etc) and as we crossed the border my granddad would tell us we needed to remember that they spoke a different language in Yorkshire!
Lovely capture Pat. Colourful and great POV. Haven't been to Harrogate for years but you can't go without visiting Betty's. My Dad's family were all from Yorkshire and my Mother's family all come from Lancashire so I haven't got a hope really:-)) Fav
@quietpurplehaze well I would have done like shot Hazel but I had already spent enough & it was expensive! I will keep an eye on it to see if it's cheaper in any sale!
